Gateway Harbor Upgrades
The City of North Tonawanda’s Gateway Harbor Upgrades project was awarded the 2021 ACEC New York Engineering Excellence Gold Award under Structural Services category.
This project, stimulated by funding received from New York’s Smart Growth Community Fund, was an extension of initial investments in the waterfront which had catalyzed the rebirth of North Tonawanda’s adjacent commercial and retail district from a rustbelt community to a vibrant destination at the gateway to the Erie Canal; and was intended to provide enhancements, including the construction of a modern, ADA-compliant harbor master facility with restroom and showers; extended dockage with upgraded utility hookups; improved lighting; and gathering facilities. As lead consultant, Nussbaumer & Clarke, Inc. provided site, structural, mechanical, and electrical design services. Our Design Team included JM Davidson Engineering, DPC, a local WBE firm responsible for construction administration and public outreach, and Kideney Architects, an Architectural firm who contributed architectural design and rendering services.
