Lewiston Landing Emergency Reconstruction and Resiliency Project
The Lewiston Landing Emergency Reconstruction and Resiliency Project was awarded the 2021 ACEC New York Engineering Excellence Platinum Award under Special Projects Category.
In response to the record flooding which occurred in 2017 and 2019, New York created the Lake Ontario Resiliency & Economic Development Initiative (REDI) to assist shoreline communities increase resiliency and bolster economic development. REDI is comprised of regional planning committees, including representatives from eight counties, including Niagara. The committees identify local priorities, at-risk infrastructure and other assets, and public safety concerns. The Commission allocated $235 million for local and regional projects that advance and exemplify the REDI mission such as Lewiston which applied for and received $1.2 million in funding assistance.
Nussbaumer & Clarke, Inc. is proud to have been retained as design engineer for the project providing site, structural, electrical and mechanical engineering services in addition to construction administration, inspection and funding administration. We wish to congratulate our design team, which included ASI Marine, Glynn Geotechnical Engineering and Nature’s Way Environmental; as well as contractor Mark Cerrone, Inc. for their efforts. Thanks to the vision of the Village of Lewiston, the talents of the engineering design professionals and the hard work of our contractor, this project completed within the timeframe and budget (revised), and was well received by the Village, public and other stakeholders. All recognized the unprecedented challenges being faced and worked together to see the project to completion. The Lt. Governor and other REDI members were at Lewiston Landing for the ribbon cutting and were very satisfied with the finished project. They have recommended other communities implementing REDI projects to incorporate some of the resilient design features of Lewiston Landing.
